  2. Hi all – we just wanted to let you know about some changes coming …

As you will be aware, DoingFlorida is currently spread across two different sites; DoingFlorida.com and DoingFloridaForums.com. We will soon be changing this so that everything will be together under one site; DoingFlorida.com.

The vast majority of our members and visitors already view our daily news on the main DoingFlorida.com site (or via our Facebook page) rather than on the forum. From this week, the daily news will appear only on the main DoingFlorida.com site, and this forum will shortly be closed down. We want to thank all our members for your fantastic support over the past eleven years, it has been great to get to know so many fellow Florida fans! If you would be interested in joining a DoingFlorida Facebook Group please let us know - it would be great to keep the community together - we will start a thread in the Members Forum so you can let us know what you think.

It's the end of an era but the start of a new one and we very much hope you will join us!

Best Wishes from the DoingFlorida Team

    Hi all ,
Was back in Sept for my holiday and as usual it was great , BUT, was ripped off by Dollar car hire for $589 . Booked and paid for a 16 day car hire from cartrawler (DON'T USE ). Got the conformation e-mail from Dollar saying booking confirmed and all i had to do was rock up at desk show e-mail produce, my license, credit card and pay $110.
When i got to the desk the female working there said i didn't have the F.D.W or something and that i had to allow them to take it form my credit card when i returned the car , I was also supposed to get all the taxes and insurances free according to the e-mail and until i agreed she would not give me a vehicle.
I have photos and original documentation . This is the first time that i have been ripped off and if i ever return will definately make sure never to use Dollar again as when i tried to raise my concerns with any of the staff all i got was told tough there is nothing you can do.

Holiday otherwise was as said beautiful and lived upto expectation . Stayed at the Legacy Vacation Resort which was well above what i expected , even enjoyed Irma . Only wish i had bought more lightsabers and to get more is the only reason i would go back .

SO STAY CLEAR OF CARTRAWLER , they are cheats

Glad it didn't spoil you're holiday. They shouldn't be allowed to do that

Never heard of F.D.W. before but sounds like a ??? Damage Wavier. I assume that your Dollar retail via Cartrawler didn't include the insurance. What was the expected $110 to be paid on arrival for ?
A few trips back we were in the process of booking a car which seemed 'very good value' ~ can't remember the company name but seem to recall that it was something to do with Cartrawler. Anyway when we got to the end of the booking process BANG there was an 'optional extra' charge added, it was for insurance but offered by a UK based company, to be far it was still quite competitive but we felt a little uncomfortable about it, so we didn't proceed. Glad that we didn't because when we looked deeper the insurance wasn't recognized by the Car Hire company (think it was either Dollar or Alamo) and on arrival we would either have to buy their insurance or leave a credit card 'imprint' for up to the value of the car. If there was an accident or incident the repair cost would be deducted from the credit card we would then have to claim it back from the UK insurance company. Although it wasn't too clear it looked like there would be a charge to the credit card regardless.
Since then we have only booked direct with hire car companies or through ones which offer 'all inclusive' rates.

Ooh that makes me so mad. I hate being ripped off. I am so glad it did not ruin your holiday. Definitely need to go back for more lightsabers though

Thanks all for your views and replies .Yeah have actually looked for September this year and got a great offer flying Virgin premium and staying at the Legacy again but when it comes to car hire it scares me off .
Been to Orlando 7 times but this was the first time that i was treated like this . The woman working there was you take this or you will not get a vehicle , there was no help or explanation and then when i asked about all the taxes that were supposedly free just a shrug of the shoulders .
Yes a very bad after taste but hopefully will get over it and like Arnie " I'LL BE BACK"

That’s terrible. I’m glad that we never hire a car when we go. Hope everything goes ok when you go back in September.
